About the position The Financial Markets Department is looking to hire three Business Analysts for two separate locations: Head Office (located in downtown Ottawa) and at our Calgary Operational Site (located in downtown Calgary).
One term position is required for Ottawa until 31 December 2021, with the possibility of extension and two term positions are required for Calgary until 30 June 2022, with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Delivery Services in the Financial Markets Department’s (FMD) Business Analysis and Systems Support Team, you leverage your expertise in business strategy and analysis to clarify and document users’ needs, while ensuring that the teams in charge of implementation fully understand the features needed to improve market operations applications. You play a strong business role by reviewing and analyzing options for improving business solution capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the Bank. Using your business analysis skills to understand requirements, you work closely with all business lines to ensure that the end-state solution is truly in line with Bank expectations. Working with an Agile team, you also contribute to all efforts necessary to complete the team’s tasks. This can potentially include tasks beyond business analysis, such as writing automated testing scripts or developing tests to assess delivered features. You also work collaboratively within a team of other experts in the field.
Your future responsibilities As a Business Analyst, you will be responsible for applying analytic processes and techniques in analyzing business challenges, policies and programs or services to identify opportunities for improvement. You will investigate trends and irregularities to identify causes and recommend changes to processes or systems to enhance service delivery and/or minimize operational risk. As an active member of a Scrum team, you will be required to quickly pick-up the content and business knowledge required to support your colleagues through the requirement gathering, design and testing phase. You will play an active role in documenting user needs with the goal of meeting the requirements of the new modules and features as prioritized in our work plan.
You will be asked to gain a good understanding of our supported teams’ business processes in order to bring a meaningful contribution to our projects over the medium term. You will also work with the teams providing 2nd-level support for FMD’s applications. Providing this level of support is one of our team’s key missions, and your meaningful contribution is essential. You will also collaborate with programmers and quality assurance analysts to deliver requirements to business users as part of an Agile development process.
As per the Agile mindset, you will take part in all development phases leading to the delivery of system improvements as per user requests. You demonstrate that you support your team and help where/when needed ( a hands-on approach).
Your education and experience
a completed university degree relevant to business analysis
a minimum of six years of relevant work experience in business analysis activities
experience and knowledge in the key concepts outlined in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK)
experience working within an Agile environment
experience working with (and/or a functional understanding of ) economic and/or financial concepts
experience working in an environment where flexibility in tasks is common.

You also possess experience in planning and deploying information technology (IT) and/or business initiatives as well as in troubleshooting and applying root cause analysis in a practical context. You can conduct needs assessments and gather and identify business requirements. You have great coaching and leadership skills and are committed to continuous learning in the business analysis field. Your observation skills, your capacity to identify blind spots in the features to implement, your ability to help in planning and carrying out teamwork as well as your expertise in conceptualizing the work to be done allow you to understand the deliverables in each project.
